Saint Valentine’s Day was established by Pope Gelasius I in 500AD to commemorate love and affection between close companions. The name is derived from various Saints of the period, particularly Valentine of Terni and Valentine of Rome (honoured on 14th February each year) who achieved martyrdom during the 2nd and 3rd Century.
Valentines day gained popularity as a celebration of love between partners or prospective partners during the Middle Ages and today is celebrated on the 14th February each year. Chocolates, flowers and cards are popular gifts to show affection for a loved one. Cupids, doves, hearts, and roses are particularly relevant at Valentine’s Day and the colour red is often associated with passion.
FLOWE(RED) developed three special Valentine’s Day bouquets this year all with the characteristic red rose. The Vintage Love bouquet offers a fresh take on the classic Valentine’s day rose bouquet, with a smattering of pink and red roses interspersed with pussy willow stems. The Pure Passion bouquet offers luscious red roses wrapped in Aralia leaves and Calla lilies. The aptly named Queen of Hearts is the most classic bouquet offered in the FLOWE(RED) Valentine’s Day range, with large, rich red Columbian roses and subtle pink prunus stems.
